Season 2 (Emily Prentiss first joined the BAU in Season 2, episode 9, 'The Last Word' Key scene(s): Emily Prentiss's first appearance at the BAU - meetings with Hotch at the beginning and end of the episode. In the initial meeting, Hotch realizes that he knows Emily through her mother, and he inquires about her work and her parents. When she tells him she is due to being working with the BAU, he becomes cold and blunt with her, and says he never authorized her transfer to his unit. Undeterred, Emily waits for him in his office to meet him after a case, and convinces him to (reluctantly) give her a chance to work with the team. 2x11 - Sex, Birth, Death* Key scene(s): Hotch observes Emily affectionately greeting a Congresswoman (who had asked him to keep a case about a series of murders quiet for political reasons) in the bullpen; Hotch later rebukes Emily at a crime scene for asking him about his meeting with the Congresswoman; Hotch and Emily have a confrontational meeting in his office, after which the air is cleared and their relationship begins to improve. 2x14 - The Big Game Key scene(s): The team are enjoying a rare night out at an Irish pub, 'The Auld Dubliner'. Emily is talking with Hotch and Hotch's then wife, Haley, and buys them drinks. Haley asks Emily how she's getting on working with the BAU. Hotch cuts in and says 'she means am I being nice to you.' 2x15 - Revelations Key scene(s): Hotch asks the team what his worst traits are, and Emily says she thinks that he trusts men more than women. In another scene, JJ comments that nothing seems to rattle Emily - she keeps calm when everything is falling apart. Hotch joins the conversation and agrees with JJ. Emily explains to him that she's good at compartmentalizing. 2x19 - Ashes and Dust Emily's mother, Ambassador Elizabeth Prentiss, asks Hotch (through Emily) and his team for help with a diplomatic case. Hotch agrees. There are some nice little interactions between Hotch and Prentiss in this episode, including a scene in which Emily expresses her relief that a Russian translator has arrived at the BAU office, because her Russian is rusty - her honesty and self-deprecation make Hotch smile. |
Season 3 3x02 - In Birth and Death*
The team works on a case involving children in foster care. Emily becomes attached to a girl orphaned due to a murder the team are investigating. The case prompts her to think about having children, and she considers adopting the girl. Emily and Hotch have a conversation about this at the end of the episode. Hotch tells Emily she can't get emotionally involved' she must be objective. Emily reminds him that she needs to be human as well as deal with her work objectively. Hotch and Emily are paired up during an investigation into the disappearance of a young girl in a shopping mall. The two Agents work well together, interrogating suspects. Key scene(s): Just as the team is about to go out for drinks when they arrive back at Quantico after a case, Hotch is served with divorce papers. Emily is the first to ask about them, and appears very concerned for Hotch. 3x14 - Damaged The final scene in the episode shows Hotch signing the papers in his office, and zooms out to show him from his office window, with Emily outside, at her desk. This scene, many fans believe, is a subtle hint at the future nature of their relationship. |
Season 4 4x01 - Mayhem Key scene(s): Key scene(s): Following the bombing in New York, Hotch is suffering from ear/hearing problems. In a scene set in a graveyard, where a mechanical digger is opening up a grave, Hotch is overcome with pain caused by the loud noise. Emily notices, and runs to comfort him, obviously feeling both concerned and helpless. The two Agents spend much of the episode investigating a case together. Watch out for the final scene when Hotch hands Emily a plate of brownies! Emily seems disappointed when Hotch tells her that he won't be traveling back to DC with the team. Key scene(s): Emily and Reid, posing as social workers on a case, are trapped inside a Cult's compound. The Cult leader discovers that there is an FBI presence in the compound, and Emily confesses to being an FBI Agent. She is badly beaten, and Hotch is extremely distressed as he listens to her ordeal, which he can hear through headphones. He is unusually agitated and makes some poor judgements throughout the episode, because of his closeness to the Agents. He seems to be especially concerned for Emily. 4x05 - Catching Out Key scene(s): 4x06 - The Instincts Key scene(s): Key scene(s): Emily meets JJ's temporary replacement for her maternity leave - Jordan Todd. Todd asks Emily if she has children, and Emily jokingly replies that JJ must have snared the last viable sperm donor. Just at that moment, Hotch approaches them, and asks 'donor for what?' JJ, Emily, and Todd quickly change the subject, but Emily and Hotch exchange a glance. Later on, while the rest of the team are working elsewhere, Emily and Hotch stay at the BAU HQ together. When JJ goes into labor, Hotch and Emily are in the kitchen talking and making coffee, and go into 'mom and dad' mode when JJ has to be rushed to hospital. Key scene(s): Emily and Hotch, once again, work closely on a case. When Emily is chosen to 'bait' a lecherous 'love guru' nicknamed Viper, she unwillingly agrees. There is a fantastic scene in a locker room between Hotch and Emily, as he talks to her while she gets changed for her mission. He asks her if she's okay with the assignment, and appears unusually humbled in her presence. They joke, and talk about Agent Jordan Todd. Emily tells Hotch he should cut Todd some slack, and recalls how tough it was to be a new team member.
