Key scene(s): Emily is the first to notice that Hotch is missing, when the team pursues a case. She repeatedly asks the other team members if they have heard from him. She eventually goes to Hotch's apartment, and finds it empty but disturbed, with shattered glass and bloodstains on the floor. She calls Garcia, who checks local hospitals for recently admitted patients. Emily finds Hotch, unconscious but stable in St Sebastian's. She is upset, but relieved that he is alive. She ask the doctor if she can stay with him, and remains at his bedside. When the rest of the team arrive at the hospital, she explains the situation. Hotch begins to wake, and she is the first to arrive at his bedside. Later, she tries to remain composed, though distressed, and asks Hotch if he can remember what happened to him. Although he can remember his experience vividly, he does not tell her about the horrific attack he was subjected to. Nonetheless, she remains at the hospital, worrying about him. Key scene(s): A month or so after Hotch's attack, he finally returns to work. Emily insists on picking him up from his apartment, even though he can drive. She works closely with him on a case, concerned about his state of mind, and uncharacteristically erratic behavior. At the end of the episode, she brings him home, and he allows her to follow him into his apartment. They talk about the unsub (a psychotic man who had had an horrendous childhood as the son of a serial killer), and Hotch glumly notes that he [the unsub] has no-one. Emily insists that he does, he is not alone. Their conversation strongly implies that Emily is telling Hotch that he is the one who is not alone. She leaves his apartment, and he contemplates - the day, the case, her words. We can only assume. This episode is possibly the strongest indicator we have so far of Emily's affections for Hotch.
